8 Tips to Get Yourself Through IB Without Losing Your Mind

This article will be essential for you to keep your sanity through the two years of this tortuous program.

1. Don’t do it!
It will destroy your mental health! Just kidding, we all know it pays off at the end, and there is nothing like the feeling of accomplishment when it’s over, and you have that diploma in your hands!

2. Do not procrastinate!
IB will require you to exercise your time management skills, and it is crucial that you don’t accumulate your work because there are dozens of IA’s, IO’s, and 4000 words to be written simultaneously, so use your time wisely.

3. Follow the criteria and rubric
The IB rubric is a handbook to get the best grades; if you follow what they ask, you are halfway done. The IB highly values pieces that follow the criteria meticulously.

4. Don’t underestimate CAS
All students decide to prioritize other activities, but CAS is a requirement for you to get your diploma; you can have a predicted grade of seven in all subjects but without a good CAS project that has no worth.

5. Choose your courses wisely
It is extreeeeeeemely important that you choose your courses wisely since you won’t be able to change them for two years. There should be a lot of effort when choosing them, acknowledging your priorities and balancing what universities value most with your strengths.

6. Make good use of technology
There are thousands of platforms out there to help you improve your texts and papers, and you should embrace them; such as Grammarly, Questor, and Quillbot. They are life-changing for IB students.

7. Ask for feedback
ALWAYS as for feedback from your teachers, supervisors, or even your friends, will sometimes have great additions to your production. Even ChatGPT can be helpful in this case; copy your text, paste it to their website, ask for feedback based on the IB criteria and you’ll see excellent suggestions. It is also nice to always read your texts out loud so you can see if it is comprehendible or if it just makes sense in your head.

8. Deliver first drafts perfectly
Current IB students suggest that you deliver the first drafts of your papers perfectly. That way, instead of submitting rough drafts you’ll be required to rewrite in a time-consuming manner, you will be more prepared and organized.

Remember, the IB can be challenging but also an opportunity for personal growth and academic development, besides all the great options the diploma gives you abroad and here in Brazil! So stay
focused, stay positive, and believe in your abilities. You can do it!
